It is looking like the battle of the Manchester clubs as both teams went on fire to displace their opponents this weekend. Howard Kendall (Former Everton Manager who died before the match) was a great manager but alas! it was Man Utd who paid a better tribute with the thrashing of Everton in their own backyard.

Wayne Rooney scored his first goal at Goodison Park since 2007 as Manchester United and Morgan Schneiderlin’s first competitive goal for United in the 18th minute gave them the lead before Ander Herrera headed in a second just four minutes later.

David de Gea also continued his fine recent form with strong reaction saves to deny Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley as United weathered an early storm in the second half.

Man Utd now seat 2nd with 19 pts, 2 pts behind league leaders Man City who has 21 pts. The defending champions Chelsea trail behind with 10 points. Barring chelsea, It looks like Game On between the Manchester clubs who have been the only side to topple each other on spot #1 of the premier league this season.

Overall, it was a good wakeup for Man Utd after their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Louis Van Gaal speaking after the match “I’m very happy with my players’ response and very proud of the performance” says Louis van Gaal. “I hope it’s the start of many victories. If I have to mention one name, it would be Herrera,” says van Gaal. “He played well and made a big contribution to our goals.”
